38th Independence & World Creole Music Festival (WCMF)
This year’s lineup during my native island’s 38th Independence Celebration was bananas! Dominican superstars like Michelle Henderson, WCK, Triple Kay International, and Asa Bantan graced the stage during The Commonwealth of Dominica’s 19th edition of the Dominica-based festival, which will took place from October 28th to October 30th.
Also on the ticket were Wyclef Jean (Haiti), Popcaan (Jamaica), and Akon (Africa). You can read more about the lineup on CaribbeanJournal.com. This is the first time that I can remember being home for my island’s popular fete.
The feature on Caribbean Journal quotes Dominica’s Minister of Tourism, Robert Tonge, as stating, ““We’re focused on developing the World Creole Music Festival holistically,… I’m pleased that the government recognized within the festival an opportunity to showcase Dominica to the world, and increased its investment to lend the support we needed to take our offering to the next level. I’m also eternally grateful to our loyal patrons and partners, who over the years have propelled the festival to the upper echelon of regional musical offerings.”
Hats off to my Dominica for another year of independence. Vive Dominique!!!
