CARIFESTA: Supporting Dominica Relief Efforts
Post Tropical Storm Erika there is only one path to follow; onwards and upwards! The Commonwealth of Dominica is now ready to rebuild! So many countries have taken a stand to support The Nature Island during this journey. Many thanks to St. Kits, St. Lucia, Antigua, Venezuela, China, and all who have donated in this time of great need.
There is still so much more that my homeland needs! As we celebrate West Indian heritage, Labor Day 2015 in Washington D.C. will be bittersweet. There is much to do in the journey towards rebuilding Dominica. To provide support, CARIFESTA is collecting donations all weekend from Friday, September 5, 2015 through Monday, September 7, 2015.
To understand the urgency, please see the featured video; courtesy of CBN4 News. In the news-clip, a resident that survived the flooding and landslides caused by Tropical Storm Erika (Rhoda James) shares her experience.
You are invited to visit www.RebuildDominica.org for updates and ways that you can help. Donations are being accepted throughout the Washington, DC area. Donation dropoff will also take place during CARIFESTA 2015.
CARIFESTA is a free Caribbean Music and Arts festival celebrating Caribbean-American heritage coming to Washington, DC. Festivities begin September 5th with the finale event on September 7th from 12 pm to 8 pm (EST).
