Fences: Denzel’s New Movie Premiering Christmas Day
Saw an advanced screening of #FencesMovie tonight with the Minnie. I knew just by looking at the cast that this was going to be a new classic. Fences was adapted from a screenplay of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The film stars Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney. It was produced by Scott Rudin, Denzel Washington and Todd Black.
Fences is a time piece set in the late 1950s. Troy, the main character played by Denzel Washington, was a man too early for his time. He was an illiterate Black man, who stepped into manhood much too early. Accepting his circumstances, Troy was brave and protective of his family. The fences he built in and around his life were his best attempt to keep his family, his most valued possession, safe from harm. A feat that proved to cause more harm than good at times.
Troy’s larger than life personality will make you laugh, cry, and everything in between. The film is truly heart-warming and very appropriate for the entire family. Full of morals, lessons, and life’s hidden nuggets of gold, #FencesMovie will tug at your heart and make you appreciate your own family: the good, the bad, and the ugly. After all, our family, or lack thereof, is what helps us build character!
Denzel Washington did a bang-up job directing and staring in this movie! We are our parents legacy: the good, bad, and ugly. Our family or lack thereof builds our character. Denzel and Viola Davis, you two are MVPs!!!
#FencesMovie has already racked in 6 Critics’ Choice Awards nominations including Best Picture, Denzel Washington for Best Director & Best Actor, and Viola Davis for Best Supporting Actress. Be sure to see it in theatres Christmas Day 2016!
