Rihanna’s Daring and Gorgeous CFDA Gown
I will start by saying that not everyone will agree with me describing Rihanna’s gown at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards (NYC) as, “gorgeous.” And, I can understand their take. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Tons of celebs catch it no matter what they do because they are in the public eye.
I will say that this gown was risque’. Even the designer, Adam Selman, was quoted on ABC News as saying the following:
“We definitely wanted to make it a little bit scandalous,” Adam Selman, the dress designer, told Style.com. “The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed. But fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that.”
I will transition from that quote by saying the following, to each his own. It’s her body so no one can tell her what to do with it but her. One could argue that Rihanna’s choice was not to their liking. Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can definitely agree that this could be quite a shock to those who feel that showing that much “skin” in public is outside the box. The box meaning society’s standard dress code.
Personally, I love the dress and wish I had the body to rock it. Maybe it’s that Caribbean blood running through my veins. Or, it could be that I like sparkly things and enjoy the fact that all of my lady parts aren’t completely out of the game. Then again, I was raised in Guadeloupe (French Antilles – Caribbean) where it’s perfectly normal to go topless on the beach. Now, that being said, I sure som of you may quip, “Ummmm….that’s the beach, boo-boo!”
But…, potato potata. My point is: everyone clearly has a point. In any case, cheers to RiRi for being herself! In the end, only God can judge. And, we most certainly weren’t born with clothes, now were we?
That is just my take on the matter.
